Description:
A national competition held by Brisbane City Council to redevelop King George Square in Brisbane's CBD. King George Square is the primary civic precinct in Brisbane’s city centre, and an important venue for public celebration.
The brief was to design King George Square as a premier civic space in Brisbane, reinforcing the connection between City Hall and the Square, and reflecting the subtropical climate of Brisbane.
The main Chrysalis building reflected the proportions of City Hall while providing a retail, commercial and recreational facilities.
The design incorporated considered placement of vegetation, seating, public art and space for retail or outdoor dining areas.
