Western Suburbs Special School

Name: Western Suburbs Special School
Date: 02-Mar-2010
Client: Queensland Department of Education, Training and Employment
Builder: FKG Group
Category: Educational, Government

8i Architects was engaged by FKG to design and document the new School Administration Building, General Learning Area Block and BER Hall for Western Suburbs Special School.

The use of natural ventilation, natural lighting and acoustic attenuation strategies in the Administration Building and General Learning Areas provides an energy efficient, thermally comfortable building enjoyed by students and teachers.

The 380m² BER Hall incorporated amenities, storage areas and a large open hall space. In contrast to the low key exterior, the interior of the hall was brightly coloured with translucent roof sheeting to provide natural lighting.
